Sometimes life gets serious. Too serious.
This past week, I’ve been neck-deep in weighty matters, the kind that demand left-brain logic and focus. And while these things are important – sometimes essential, they can feel like quicksand, pulling me deeper into their gravity.
So, in the spirit of breaking free, I’ve turned to my weekend practice: messy, non-linear writing. It’s my way of dancing with the spirals of life rather than marching to its rigid lines. Today, I’m inviting you into this space of riffs, wild imaginings, and unedited musings. It’s chaotic on purpose, and I hope it stirs something in you – curiosity, validation, or even a spark of joy.
Life, the Quest, and the Mundane Grind
Whether we’re chasing our dreams or keeping the wheels of everyday life turning, things can get heavy. And yes, these pursuits matter. But must they always carry such weight?
I’ve spent much of my life toggling between extremes, giving everything 110% or withdrawing completely, drowning in the “seriousness” of it all. It’s exhausting. Life in this binary mode feels unsustainable, like trying to artificially generate energy to move forward.
Here’s the twist: I’m naturally both wildly enthusiastic and deeply introspective. These states don’t always mix well, but I’ve learned they don’t have to. Instead of forcing harmony, I’ve embraced the ebb and flow between them. Each state holds treasures – artefacts of experience, insights, and emotions – waiting to be explored and integrated when the time feels right.
Navigating the World as a “Slow Savorer”
If you’re here reading this, I suspect you might also have unusual gifts, perhaps a unique relationship with time, an attunement to subtle energy shifts, or a deep connection to the unseen.
For people like us, fitting into the mainstream world can be… well, work. The 9-5 grind, the need to be quick, logical, and linear, it’s the opposite of our natural rhythms.
Yet, diving headlong into our own wild ways without grounding can leave us stuck in existential goo, requiring herculean efforts to climb out. I’ve been there too many times to count. And yet, these detours – this paradox of triumph and loss, light and shadow – are what make life rich.
What Seriousness Costs Us
When I’m serious, I feel safe. I feel in control. I’ve analyzed every angle and convinced myself that my effort will pay off. But this safety is an illusion, a byproduct of conditioned thinking. Life doesn’t offer guarantees, no matter how hard we try to outthink uncertainty.
What this over-reliance on logic costs us is connection: to our instincts, to nature, to our ancestors who lived as part of the wild world, not apart from it. It costs us the joy of just being.
The Gifts of the Spiral Path
Through my many attempts to “function” in the world, I’ve gathered a wealth of knowledge about the highs, lows, and in-betweens. I’ve come to value the infinite planes of existence available to us as human animals, creatures pretending not to be creatures.
This perspective has helped me see that every part of my being – the joyous, the sorrowful, the mundane – is inherently valuable. It’s allowed me to show up as me, moment by moment, without needing to judge or reject the parts of myself that don’t “fit.”
An Invitation to Your Own Wayward Path
I wonder: how much sense might there be in your insensibility? How much delight could you find in embracing your own waywardness? What do you already know about what’s best for you?
If you could lean into just 1% of that knowing (or 100%) what might change? What would bring a thrill to your soul, a spark to your day? Whatever it is, I encourage you: do that.
With love from my wild, spiraling path,
Marina XO
